A breathalyser is a tool to assist in making an informed decision after consuming alcohol.

Where there is ever any doubt in your ability to drive safely due to alcohol consumption you should always; arrange a designated driver, call a cab, take public transport or stay the night. The number one way to prevent drink driving, and all consequences associated, is if you do drink, do not drive. “Home tomorrow morning is better than not home at all...”

There are over a dozen factors to take in to account when trying to calculate your BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration). Some are as straight forward as how many standard drinks you’ve had or how quickly you consumed them. Others are slightly more difficult to calculate, such as your metabolic rate and fat/muscle content.

The fact is you can take all these things in to account while you’re out and still get it wrong. Without reliable information and the opportunity to make an informed decision, you’re left to try and guess whether you might be ok. Your licence, career, car and more importantly yours or someone else’s life is never something that should be left to a guess. Use a calibrated, Australian Standards approved breathalyser, know your limit and keep your options open.

It was my birthday last week. We had a gathering, a party if you like, there were friends, family, hangeroners' and after learning my lesson a few weeks ago, the latest addition to my family...my breathalyser, I call it Ana for short (Breath ANAlyser). It lives a farily sedate life, living in my glove box, and only sees the light of day to perform its duty, which is generally to analyse the blood alcohol content (BAC) on the spot. When out with my family and the crowd, all i need to do is whip this thing out and it gets passed around to everyone who thinks they may be over the legal driving limit (.05%).

That aside, it was a great night, lots of memories... did not end up driving home, I should not have opened that 3 bottle of red, but hey... When you are over the legal limit, you would be a fool to think you won't get caught by the police. I love my breathalyser, but when you go too farr, they are pointless, at which point we would hope common sense would kit in.

The debate about breathalysers

For years now, the greater public has had the opportunity to utilise the convenient and sometimes money saving benefits of personal, hand held breathalysers. Although tainted by mediocre, cheap toys posing as breathalysers in the past, the underlying value of such instruments still holds true.

Technology gets better, prices come down, customer service goes up along with technical and warranty support… It’s the way our cozy, developed world spins. Take for instance MP3 players, computers, cars… actually almost everything except petrol tends to follow suit. The most unfortunate thing about the personal breathalyzer industry is that it does not always reflect the trends of the market. Technology is getting better, prices are coming down and support for the products getting better. HOWEVER, it has been seen time and time again that they don’t always happening along side of each other.

Here’s my point:

Technology gets better: but you pay for it, that is, if you can get your hands on it.
Prices come down: but still using the oldest, cheapest technology available, rendering the ‘breathalyzer’ as nothing more than a key-ring with flashing lights every time the wind blows.
Customer support goes up: But only if you buy the really expensive models, and the supplier is based in Australia.

For a lot of companies, a quick buck, easy money, hassle free transactions is what they are looking for. Consumers on the other hand tend to be looking for quality, reliability and accuracy from the breathalysers they purchase. Breathalysers are on the market as a tool to gauge ones breathe alcohol concentration, from which they can make a more informed decision on if to drive or not. Very few people who purchase cheap ‘gadget’ models expect the breathalyser to be accurate, let alone last more than a few months. However the consumers who spend that extra money should expect a quality unit that will serve them well into the future. And hopefully keep them and their loved ones safe on the road.

It is for this reason that Andatech aims to only supply quality breathalysers, at reasonable prices (however you do still get what you pay for) with the facilities to offer full, ongoing support for all Andatech, Alcoscan and AlcoSense breathalysers. This market plays an important role in the peace of mind and road safety sectors. And we should work harder to ensure that it stays that way, rather than be tarnished by toys and gadgets, that can not only mislead people and put them in harms way, but also wastes the money of the un-expecting buyer.

Now that I have blown my trumpet for the morning, I can get back to spreading the word, hopefully making the roads safer for your loved ones.08

We have just received our shipment of new products. These come in the way of massagers, shiatsu cushions and seats, even slimming massage belts. These will fit very nicely into the line up and help people save money and time on chiros, physios and masseurs. That being said, we are not saying to completely stop going to see them, as nothing can substitute the ‘Real McCoy’.

We always welcome your feed back so if you have a view on any of these or our other products let us know… We really, actually do appreciate it.
