What is Calibration?
All breathalysers indicate BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) level based on the information stored in the sensor’s memory. Exact values of certain BAC levels are stored so that the sensor can provide the most accurate readings. Over time, these stored values lose accuracy as more tests are conducted. The sensor itself and the stored sensor values deteriorate over time and with more tests, affected by external variables.
For breathalysers which can't be calibrated, this deterioration is permanent. Fortunately, all Andatech breathalysers can be recalibrated to bring themselves back to as new precision, even after hundreds of uses.
How often should you recalibrate your breathalyser?
For AlcoSense Mini, recalibration is recommended every 6 months for the standard user (4-5 uses per week). For heavier users it is recommended every 3-6 months.
For Andatech AL6000 Pro, recalibration is recommended every 200 uses or every 4-6 months. The sensor needs replacement every year or 500 uses in total. The cost of sensor replacement is included in calibration.
For AlcoSense® Precision, recalibration is recommended once a year. Sensor replacement is unnecessary because it is a fuel cell breathalyser
How do you know when your breathalyser needs recalibrating?
- When you turn on the unit and the displayed number of uses exceeds 200. (Andatech AL6000 Pro only)
- When any of messages "SEN", "ER-4" or "CAL" appear on the display after count down. (Andatech AL6000 Pro only)
- When your unit is more than 6 months old or it has been over 6 months since it was last recalibrated. (AlcoSense Mini and Andatech AL6000 Pro only)
- When the unit gives significantly higher readings than expected.
- When you turn on the units and 3 LED lights are on with nothing displayed on the screen.
Which breathalysers can we calibrate?
Andatech will calibrate any andatech breathalyser from any authorised reseller.
Any Alcolimit or Sober Check product
Andatech does not calibrate:
Any Andatech breathalyser purchased from Online Auction, unless they are an authorised reseller. Please check with the seller before confirming the purchase.
Easy Check, Draeger, Alcolyzer, Breath Check, Alcomate or Alcohawk, HH1 Alcolizer
However, we''l accept any and all old breathalyers for an upgrade to an Andatech AL6000 Pro.
Can you calibrate your own breathalyser?
Generally no. Calibration requires the use of standardised machines and procedures to ensure your breathalyser meets Australian standards. However, you are encouraged to troubleshoot your breathalyser for simple problems that can be fixed yourself.
